The Articles of Confederation were needed because the States needed a political plan to make the guidelines of the law clear to all who would have to follow them. Prior to the war, they were governed by the British monarchy. So they tried to make a government that was not ruled or based on the ideas of one person that had the only say in the matter. They learned from their mistakes and tried to make a a government that would not give too much power to one person that could abuse it. In doing this, the made a political plan that they thought would work by making sure that they was no chance of that happening again. As a result, the Articles of Confederation were created and ratified in 1781 as the first constitution of the U.S. because, after the War of Independence, the states got their freedom, but the states had no laws to organize their new government.
